Mr. Walter Mack Rhodes, 80, a resident of Glenwood, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, October 18, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Rhodes will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 21, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Rhodes went to work with Delchamps Grocery when he was young, and worked his way up to Senior Vice President due to his dedication and work ethic. He also owned and operated his own store, Donna’s Grocery, in Henderson, Alabama with his daughter for 15 years. In his spare time, he loved nothing more than to work on his farm or with his cows. He took special pride in his thriving garden of flowers around his home. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family, and they loved him just as much in return.
Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon G. and Willodean Catrett Rhodes, and his sister, Faye Rhodes Sanders. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mae Rodgers Rhodes; their two daughters, Renee (Michael) Martin and Donna (Tracey) Bennett; five grandchildren, Sheena (Noel) Richardson, Mitchell Beverly, Brandon Rhodes, Harlee Bennett, and Dakota Bennett; great-granddaughter, Livia Richardson; two brothers, Marcus (Lois) Rhodes and Paul (Joan) Rhodes; and brother-in-law, Ted Sanders
Active pallbearers will be Todd Rhodes, Wesley Rhodes, Gary Rhodes, and Scott Rhodes, Mardy Rhodes, and Tracey Bennett. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 - 11 AM.
