Margaret "Peggy" Shannon Hollis, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in Birmingham, Alabama, while surrounded by her family and almost exactly one month from her 90th birthday. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 13th, at the Brantley United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 AM.
Peggy lived a full and happy life. She was blessed with good health, a loving family, a teaching career she cherished, friends she adored, and the knowledge that she had made a difference in her little corner of the world. There were several great loves in her life. The first and most important was Goat Hollis. They were married for 68 years, and were devoted to each other and the family they created. The second was "her girls" as she called her daughters, Betsy and Shannon, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nephews. And then, in no particular order, she was passionate about books, travel, her bridge club, her lifelong friends, Kappa Kappa Gamma and the University of Alabama, the students she taught through the years at Brantley and Dozier High Schools, and the menagerie of dogs she loved and spoiled throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the church or the Alzheimer's Association, either of which would be welcomed and appreciated.
