Margaret Broadway Murry, 83, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home while surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 14th, 2023. A graveside service for Margaret will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 16th, in Rutledge Cemetery with Brother Stae Sanders officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Margaret was born and raised in Ivy Creek, Alabama before moving to Rutledge. As it turned out, this was a life-changing decision as Rutledge is where she met and married the love of her life, Wilson Murry. She and Wilson would later move to Montgomery where they would raise their boisterous family of five children in as warm and loving a home as could possibly exist. She took tremendous pride in making sure she kept an immaculate home, despite the chaos inherent in raising a family, and, more importantly, devoting all of her time and attention into being the best wife and mother they could ever have asked for. Luckily for them all, Margaret had just the kind of sense of humor that a parent needs when raising children, especially three boys! She was also a phenomenal cook who thoroughly enjoyed preparing scrumptious dishes everyday for her loved ones. They all claim there was no finer meal in the world than her chicken and rice dish, served alongside a big helping of freshly-baked, crispy cornbread! There was truly nothing she would not do for the people she loved, whether it was her own children and grandchildren or her siblings and their children. Whether it was making sure they had something to eat while at work or helping them finish school, they had no greater support system in the world than her.
The best thing about Margaret's children was that they provided her with the absolutely best job in the world, that of "Granny" to their own children! Grannies live to spoil their grandchildren with all of their love and attention, and she certainly fit that mold perfectly! She was most assuredly her grandchildren's favorite human as they enjoyed all the benefits of having a loving home to spend time in and delicious food to enjoy, but without the rules and discipline their parents faced. You can rarely find anyone as warm, loving, generous and kind as Margaret Murry, and the world would certainly be a far better place if you could. She modeled the value of hard work for her children and, more importantly, she taught them how to be the kind of people who leave the world a better place than they found it. In what free time she had, Margaret loved to keep her yard in tip-top shape, and loved to follow stock racing as well as watch Wheel of Fortune. She was raised a Baptist and thoroughly trusted in both her God and His plan for her life, and her all-time favorite song was the hymn Amazing Grace. Words cannot express how much she touched the lives of everyone who knew and loved her nor how difficult it is to lose her, but they will find comfort in the knowledge that she is now safe in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, George Wilson Murry Sr; parents, Amos & Effie Lee Snell Broadway; and brothers, Walter J. Broadway & William Wesley Broadway. She is survived by her devoted children, Kenny W. Broadway, Betty S. Tabrizi, George Murry Jr, Mary A. Murry, and John W. (Rebecca) Murry; grandchildren, Jonathan W. Murry, Travis (Evan) Murry, Sarah M. (Gabe) Keating, Hannah Tabrizi, and Michelle L. Tabrizi (Lahar Samantarai); great-grandchildren, Mary Chaplin Murry & Wallace Charles Murry; siblings, Jimmie R. Benefield, Walter Broadway, Mary Lou Smith, Buddy (Becky) Broadway; and a host of loving nieces & nephews.
