Marsha Gayle Baines

October 31, 1948 — January 22, 2026

Marsha Baines, lovingly known as Marsha Gayle, Marty, Mom, and MeMa, age 77, of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on January 22, 2026. She was born on October 31,1948, and left this world surrounded by the love of her family she cherished. A celebration of Marsha's life will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, at 10 AM at Luverne United Methodist Church. Visitation with friends and family will follow immediately after the service and continue until 12:30 PM in the LUMC Dei Center.

Marsha's family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren. If you spent even a moment with her, you knew her family was her whole heart. She never missed a chance to be part of their lives and celebrate their accomplishments. Being "MeMa" was her greatest title, and she wore it with so much love and pride. She was known for her spunky personality, her wisdom, and her love of learning new things. Marsha had a curiosity about the world and enjoyed staying involved, engaged, and informed. She was also famously known for her love of card playing and proudly held her "Skip Bo Legend" status. Cards were more than a game to her, they were a way to laugh, connect, and make memories with the people she loved.

Marsha was a local business owner for many years and enjoyed serving her community. She cared deeply about others and believed in serving her community through organizations like Kiwanis, the Historical Society, the Garden Club, and any place where she could be involved. She especially treasured time spent with The Laughing Ladies, always enjoying new adventures, fun gatherings, and any excuse to get together and share life. Along with her love for family and her Laughing Ladies, she also treasured very special friendships that she held close to her heart, which brought a quiet kind of joy and companionship into her life. Marsha will be remembered for her steady love, her spunky spirit, her sharp wisdom, and the way she made family the center of everything. Her stories, laughter, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her, especially those who were honored to call her MeMa.

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall & Lucile Martin, and the father of her children, Dr. Davis Baines. She is survived by her children, Duane (Kim) Baines, Kim (Joe) Whorton, Wendy (Peter) Roberts, and William (Tracy) Baines; her grandchildren, Brandon Baines, Alex Baines, Andrew (Braxton) Baines, Hunter (Abby) Cronan, Chase (Elisabeth) Cronan, Brianna (Joseph) Abramski, Morgan (Adam) Norsworthy, and Jace (Caroline) Baines; and her great-grandchildren, Bregan Baines and Phoenix Baines (children of Andrew and Braxton), Marley Cronan and Harrison Cronan (children of Chase and Elisabeth), Deacon Cronan (son of Hunter and Abby), and Marlee Kay Norsworthy (daughter of Adam and Morgan); and numerous other extended family members and friends.
