Martha Sue Smith

Martha Sue Boswell Acreman Smith, 77, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 31st, 2023. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time.

Martha had a variety of interests which led her to an even wider variety of occupations over the years, but she was proudest of the years since she spent as a correctional officer for the Crenshaw County Jail. She felt she was serving her community the best way she could and also thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her co-workers. After she retired from the county, she moved on to taking care of others as there were elderly members of her own extended family who needed her. Obviously, Martha was not about a life of leisure!

Throughout her life, Martha was well known for her strong will that helped her endure the slings and arrows life threw at her. She was a social butterfly who was the definition of gregarious and engaging, and there was never a stranger who sat down beside her who didn't leave as a new friend. Her vitality and phenomenal sense of humor made her easy to love and so very often brightened up the world of anyone she encountered. Never mistake her easygoing nature and love of people for being a pushover, however. Beneath that soft exterior beat a heart of iron who never shied away from sharing her opinion or standing up for herself and the people she loved.

Speaking of love, there was nothing better in her world than her grandchildren! I mean, children are great and all, but has she shown you a picture or a hundred of those grandchildren!! She absolutely adored all three of them, as well as her great-grandson, and cherished every single moment she was able to spend with them. When she was at home, she had no better company than her beloved dachshund, Baby Girl, who shadowed her every step. She was such a special, special person in the lives of those she loved and who loved her in return. Words cannot possibly express how much she will be missed by all of them. They will continue to carry her spark within them for the rest of their lives, however, and so she will live on through the ones she cherished the most.

Martha was preceded in death by her son, Todd Acreman, and parents, Sam Jr and Grace Davis Boswell. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Amanda & Larry White; grandchildren, Kyle (Anna) Acreman, Samantha White, and Cameron White; and great-grandson, Brennan Williams.
