Martha Brush Williams

March 14, 1926 — April 17, 2021

Luverne

Mrs. Martha Brush Williams, 95, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Lake Haven Assisted Living Facility on Saturday, April 17, 2021. A graveside service for Mrs. Williams will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 23rd, in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Williams was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and later earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Auburn University. She would later devote herself to raising her family in Luverne. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and “Mimi,” who always made sure her family had a loving home. She was very active at the Luverne United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years in the primary department. She also helped with both the Cub Scouts and Brownie Scouts when her children were younger. In her later years, she enjoyed helping out at her husband’s veterinary clinic.

She had a creative nature and loved exploring it through her sewing, knitting, and cooking. Many also swear she invented her own version of lemonade tea long before it was credited to Arnold Palmer. While Mrs. Williams had a quiet personality, she was still able to exhibit her loving and caring spirit to others. She was kind and generous to all of those she knew, and they will long remember her for it. Her family will miss her enduring presence in their lives, but they rejoice that she is now reunited with her beloved husband in Heaven.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. J. Warren Williams; parents, Frank Shobel & Mary Hereford Brush; and two brothers, Frank Shobel Brush Jr and John Elliott Brush. She is survived by her two children, Joe (Lynn) Williams and Emily (Richard) Newman; two grandchildren, Matthew Williams and Emma Williams; sister-in-law, Helen Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Luverne United Methodist Church, Lake Haven Assisted Living, or the charity of one’s choice.

They would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Lake Haven, as well as her dedicated sitters, for their love and care for Mrs. Williams during her years there.
