Marvin Scot Killough

May 8, 1963 — March 31, 2024

Luverne

Marvin Scot Killough, 60, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 31st, 2024. A celebration of Scot's life will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, at Double J Whitetails Lodge from 2 to 6 PM.

Scot lived the typical life of any military brat as they followed his father all over the world during his career. He then followed his father into service to his country by serving an enlistment with the United States Navy where he enormously proud to have worked as a boiler technician on the USS New Jersey, also affectionately known as "Big J." This was an Iowa-class battleship that earned a significant amount of battle stars from her participation in World War II, both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and she also saw action during the Lebanese Civil War and in the Persian Gulf. Scot's adventurous side loved riding the roads on his motorcycle for many years in his younger days, and he loved following football, especially the NFL and the Minnesota Vikings during that time.

After his honorable discharge, Scot wound up settling in the Ivy Creek area to raise his own two children. He was also a history buff who loved learning about military history. He was especially drawn to World War II so he was always on the lookout for a new book on the subject or something else he could learn about it! In the late 90s, Scot also got involved in early computer gaming. His favorite, by far, was one called Red Baron as it was based on the first instance of war in the skies with the aerial dogfighting of World War I. More than just indulging his love of military history, gaming allowed Scot to make so many friends in the online community from around the world and he nurtured many of those friendships throughout his life. And there was no better music in the world than the classic rock of artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, or the soulful sounds of some of the best Blues artists to walk this Earth. Otherwise, Scot could normally be found either learning all that he could about cars and their engines, or in a high-spirited game of cards with his beloved family. Above all, he truly loved his family with all of his heart, but no one made his heart sing like those two precious grandchildren who were his world. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Scot was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Killough. He is survived by his two children, Sara (Chris) Holt and William Killough; grandchildren, Jonah Holt and Vandy Holt; father, Lamon Killough; siblings, Cheryl (John) Fisher and Lamon Christopher (Janet) Killough; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
