Mary Ann was born at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. She was an Army brat and traveled all over the world with her family. She was always involved in sports in high school. Mary Ann went on to attend St. Margaret's Nursing School in Montgomery. After her graduation as a Registered Nurse in 1958, she started her career at Dr. Ray's office where she worked for many years. In 1968, she accepted a position as an RN at Crenshaw County Hospital. While there, she was a nurse of many trades such as patient care, learning, teaching, making rescue runs with TL Washington, and also taking part with working with the MASH Units out of Ft. Rucker, which included flying in helicopters to transfer trauma patients.
Mary Ann had five children and, because of her dedication and long hours at the hospital, some of them were raised by co-workers and friends in the doctor's lounge. Mary Ann had a heart of gold and was the greatest caregiver to all of her patients. She never met anyone who she didn't love. In her spare time, she loved traveling to the beach with her family and friends. Mary Ann especially loved eating at AJ's and listening to music.
Before she retired, she took the position of Director of Nursing (DON) at the hospital. After 44 years of taking care of patients, Mary Ann decided to give it up. She retired in 2012 at the age of 75. She and her husband, Bobby, have enjoyed many years spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also shared their love and home with many Boston Terriers as well as the two they now have, Belle and Bambi. She loved them all dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Sarah Grace Kilpatrick and Nicholas Allen Kilpatrick; parents, Frank & Doris Wilson Michalski; and brother, Anthony "Tony" Michalski.
