Mary Lee Colquett, 100, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Wetumpka Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025. A graveside service for Mary will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, March 1st, in Brantley Cemetery with the eulogy being delivered by Susan Jones and directed by Turners Funeral Home of Luverne. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Mary was a phenomenal seamstress who spent over 40 years working in local textile factories around Brantley. Her sewing skills were unmatched and she loved indulging in her passion for creating things in her job. She was also a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Brantley where she enjoyed few things more than participating in the beautiful singing there. At home, she took immense pride in the beauty of her yard that shone on Main Street in Brantley as she lovingly tending to her gorgeous flowers.
Mary's love language was her cooking. It didn't matter if you told her you were coming over with food, she was still gonna fix up a storm in her kitchen before you got there. That's just who she was, warm and welcoming to everyone who stepped foot in her home. She had a gift for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world when they were in her presence and that is a truly remarkable talent to have. And, boy, you were blessed if you got a taste of her scrumptious Southern cooking, especially her homemade buttermilk biscuits, chicken dressing, or chicken & dumplings! Mary was absolutely the best, most gracious wife, mother, and "Grandma Mary" to three generations of grandchildren. She adored every single one of them with her whole heart and they all loved her back just as much. Words cannot express how dearly she was loved or how much she will be missed, but they are grateful for her wonderfully long and full life that spanned an entire century.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Bill Colquett; daughter-in-law, Brenda L. Colquitt; parents, Herbert & Sallie Spivey Johnson; and siblings, Frances Simmons, Lula Bell Walker, Doris Sprigs, and Glen Johnson. She is survived by her children, Joseph Colquitt and Carolyn (Jim) Cade; grandchildren, Susan Jones, Scott (Cindy) Colquitt, Stacey (Robbie) Slater, James (Naomi) Cade, Shea (LaWayne) Seiferman, and Maia (Nick) Bordoumis; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Morgan, Matthew, Mary Beth, Rylee, Kelsi, Jimmy, and Haven; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Brunson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Matthew Morgan, Jim Ogle, Daniel Jones, Robbie Slater, Matthew Echeverria, and James Cade.
