Mrs. Mary Helen Kelley Crowe, 72, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at UAB Medical Center on Thursday, May 25th, 2023. Funeral services for Helen will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 30th, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brantley with Rev. Steve Defee officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Helen possessed a truly kind and generous soul. She opened her heart to all those she knew, and she would definitely strike up a conversation with anyone at anytime and go for as long as they wanted to talk. During her life she worked as both a seamstress in a textile factory and later as a bus driver for Pike County Schools. In her free time, she was known to enjoy lots of gospel music and a few favorite TV shows. However, her true love was tending to her beloved flowers in her garden. She was also a gifted artist who loved to draw and sketch. Above all though, Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family as her greatest blessing in life. She loved all of her family, but those grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most definitely the favorites! They will all miss her terribly, but they will find comfort in all of the treasured memories they made together over the years.
Helen was preceded in death by her son, Greg Crowe, and parents, James & Fannie Pearl Kelley. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James Ivin Crowe; their daughter & son-in-law, Mona & Chris Gooden; grandchildren, Kayla (J.D.) Crews, Kandi (Edgar) Walker, and Dusty (Brittany) Gooden; great-grandchildren, Ryan Gooden, Abby Gooden, Lauren Gooden, Hannah Gooden, Brenleigh Gooden, Jaxson Walker, Karter Walker, Oliver Crews, Lilly Crews, and Avey Crews; siblings, Shelia (Travis) Kidd, Barbara Kelley, and Edward (Maxine) Kelley; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers James Barney Brunson, Chris West, Chris Moore, John William Crowe, Jackson Sullivan, and Michael Kelley.
