Mrs. Mary Letha Sipper, 92, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022. A graveside service for Mrs. Sipper will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 28th, in Centenary Cemetery with Rev. Ervin C. Russell officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Letha was a consummate caregiver and one of the most selfless people on earth. She nurtured and nourished her loved ones throughout her entire life. She loved Cokes, milkshakes, and Chicken Shack fried chicken. She was a superb cook whose hamburgers, red velvet cake, tomato gravy, and dumplings were unsurpassed. Letha was tough as nails and could fix anything broken. She could paint, put down floors, hammer, and do a multitude of other things. Nothing could stop her from doing what she set out to do. That warrior spirit in her made her determined and driven. Her Mary Kendall called her the strongest woman she had ever known and her angel on earth and now in heaven. She loved her God and her family with her whole being. Her greatest loves were her beloved husband, her daughter, her granddaughter, and her great-granddaughter. In “A Psalm of Life,” the poet reflects on a life well-lived with this quote: “Lives of great men all remind us/We can make our lives sublime,/and, departing, leave behind us/Footprints on the sands of time.” When Letha departed this life, those footprints had already been planted deeply and eternally.
Mrs. Sipper was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil Sipper; beloved son, Kenneth Lamar Sipper; parents, Samuel Franklin & Mary Eva Daniel McCormack; and brothers, Broyce E. McCormack & J. Yancey McCormick. She is survived by her daughter, LaJuan Sipper Tomlin; granddaughter, Shannon LaJuan Tomlin; and great-granddaughter, Mary Kendall Motes.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler Best, Randall Lowe, Matthew Sipper, Steven Sipper, Tim Sipper, and Gunner Wise. Philip Sipper will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at Centenary Assembly of God on Friday from 10:00 - 10:45 AM. In honor of Mrs. Sipper, who was an advocate for wearing masks, the family requests that all those in attendance mask up for both the visitation and graveside service to keep everyone safe during this time.
