Mrs. Mary King Summerlin, 97, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away peacefully with her family in Letohatchee on February 2, 2022. A graveside service for Mrs. Summerlin will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, February 5th, in Old Providence Cemetery with Brother Jason Holladay officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home that day from 12:30 - 1:30 PM.
Mrs. Summerlin was an open, loving woman who gave freely to everyone she knew. Her home was always full of life and laughter from raising her own children and grandchildren, as well as babysitting so many others over the years. There were many besides her own children who called her "Mama," always knowing that she was there to provide them whatever they needed, be it a hot meal or a place to stay. She was the epitome of what a good Christian should be and led so many by her example. She also loved to bask in the beauty of nature that God created. She spent many a day outside just to watch the deer and others animals cavort on her land. Ultimately, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who leaves behind an incredible legacy of love for others to follow.
Mrs. Summerlin was preceded in death by her husband, Leman Summerlin; their infant son, Jonathan; parents, Hiram Delaney & Callie Ann Davis King; and siblings, Ruby Vardaro and Ralph King. She is survived by her children, Wayne (Cathy) Summerlin, Sara (Scotty) Wallace; Steve Summerlin; Debbi (Dan) Dearolph, and Jeffery Summerlin; grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, David, Tracey, Summer, Logan, Amanda, Shelby, Daniel, and Matthew, and Leman; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Jamie Steele, Leman Summerlin, Robert Beck, Joseph Turner, John Williams, and William Davis.
