Mary Lou Rhodes Windham, lovingly known as Lou, passed away on November 29th, 2023, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Lou will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Lou was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; she loved and cared deeply for her family, friends, and even strangers. She was thoughtful, smart, and intentional about making everyone feel loved and
special. Lou worked tirelessly and always put everyone above herself. Lou believed the best in her family and was always her family's biggest cheerleader. Lou loved the Lord with all her heart and shared His love with everyone she met. To be loved by Lou was a sweet blessing.
Lou was a devoted member of Frazer Church for over 50 years where she was an active member of the Pathfinders Sunday School class. Lou worked full time as the "In His Steps" Coordinator with long-time pastor and friend, John Ed Mathison, until her retirement. After retiring, Lou enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, Sam, of 58 years. She would also look for ways to serve anyone around her through cooking meals, writing encouraging notes, sitting with friends, and playing with her grandchildren.
Lou is survived by her husband, Sam Windham; sons, Sam III (Amy) and Steve (Ginger); grandchildren, Sam IV, Avery, Abby (Garrison), Will, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Rhodes; sister, Duanne Namaksy (Joe); and sister-in-law, Barbara Windham (Tom). Lou was preceded in death by her brother, William Patrick Rhodes.
The family would like to thank the Pathfinders Sunday School class, neighbors, and friends for all your support during this time. We'd also like to thank Jackson Hospital, their attentive staff, and Teresa Bright with the Jackson Hospital Palliative Care team for her kindness and compassion.
A family graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Emmaus Cemetery in Luverne, AL at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will be held later that day at Frazer Church (6000 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, AL) at 3:00 PM with visitation at 2:00 PM.
