Mattie Lula Tompkins Jeffcoat

Mrs. Mattie Lula Tompkins Jeffcoat, 91, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. Funeral services for Mrs. Jeffcoat will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 26, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Butts officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Jeffcoat unexpectedly became a single mother to five children ages 2 to 10 on December 13, 1959. She handled such a difficult situation with grace and strength, becoming a role model to all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who made sure everyone felt loved and welcome in her home. Her warm, nurturing presence will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Jeffcoat was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Alton Jeffcoat Sr; their son, Fred Alton Jeffcoat Jr; son-in-law, Robert Monk; her parents, Brad and Myra Taylor Tompkins; and two brothers, J.B. and Sam Ray Tompkins.

She is survived by her four loving children, Linda Monk, Jo (Byron) Hodge, Wesley (Patsy) Jeffcoat, and Evone (Craig) Kilpatrick; daughter-in-law, Sherry Jeffcoat; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Frierson, Joshua Hodge, Frieda (Jeff) Wilson, Angie (Daryl) Pouncey, Brad Jeffcoat, Michael (Mindy) Jeffcoat, Ben (Ashley) Kilpatrick, and Leslie Ann Kilpatrick; fifteen great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth & Bobby Frierson, Zack & Bailey Wilson, Tanner & Tucker Pouncey, Braxton, Maya, Claire, & Oliver Jeffcoat, Savannah, Brailee, Abigail, & Jaxson Kilpatrick, and Ethan Wallace; great-great-grandson, Taytom Wilson; and three sisters-in-law, Mollie Messick, Margaret Nichols, and Florence Jeffcoat.

Active pallbearers will be John Frierson, Brad Jeffcoat, Michael Jeffcoat, Jeff Wilson, Joshua Hodge, and Ben Kilpatrick. The Luverne High School Class of 1947 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 - 2 PM.
