Mavis Acreman Newton

Luverne

Mrs. Mavis Acreman Newton, 89, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health and Rehabilitation on Monday, December 2, 2019. Funeral services for Mrs. Newton will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 4, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Jud Flint officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery on Halso Mill Road in Greenville with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Newton was a well-respect and much-loved wife, sister, and aunt. She was born and raised in Crenshaw County. She and her husband later spent 51 happy years in the Spring Hill Community outside of Greenville, Alabama, where they were longtime members of the Spring Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Newton was a kind, generous, and loving person to everyone she knew, and they will all miss her tremendously.

Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Cuple Newton; their infant son, Randy Cuple Newton; her parents, Marvin Jackson and Lura Merle Thrower Acreman; and two siblings, Ferman Acreman and Jeanette Stephenson. She is survived by her brother, Morris Thrower Acreman; four nieces and 5 nephews, including her special caregivers, Gail and Jose Jimenez; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Steven Stephenson Jr, Peter D. Jimenez, Samuel Jimenez, and Jose Jimenez. Her brother-in-law, Sam Stephenson Jr, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 - 11 AM.
