Mr. Michael “Mule” Keith Kelley, 50, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020. A graveside service for Mr. Kelley will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, March 22nd, in Sardis Cemetery with Minister Jason Hurley officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Michael was left a quadriplegic following a terrible car accident when he was only 19 years old, but his survival and recovery would become an inspiration to all those who knew him. He persevered despite the difficulties he faced, and had a boundless sense of empathy and compassion for others. He had one of the kindest souls you could ever meet, and was truly a light in an often dark world. He was also one of the biggest fans of the Crimson Tide football team around, and enjoyed filling everyone in on all the finer details in play and recruiting. Ultimately, he was a joy to all those who knew him, and they will sorely miss him, but they are comforted that he is no longer suffering while he is with his Lord in Heaven.
Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Kelley. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Kelley; five siblings, Randall Kelley, Brenda Hart, Ashley McGowen, Shannon Cauthen, and Zachary Kelley; five nieces and nephews, Brandon Lamberth, Tatum McGowan, Sadie McGowan, Presley McGowan, and Beckham McGowan; uncle, Charles Kelley; and best friends, Jimmy Lott and Jennifer Hurley.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Lott, Jessie Sanders, Gerald Kelley, Stacey Kelley, Miles Horn, and John Dickey.
Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time. The family also asks that everyone please respect the current State of Alabama rules in force about social distancing at this difficult time.
