Mr. Mickey Ralph Holmes, 74, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home while surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022. Funeral services for Mr. Holmes will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 26th, at Taylor Road Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 that afternoon in Campground Cemetery in Luverne, Alabama with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday for 2 hours prior to the service time.
Mr. Holmes was a proud graduate of Troy State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administrating/Accounting. He continued to be a dedicated alumnus of his alma mater throughout his lifetime, which also included serving as the president of the TSUM Alumni Association and as a member of the board on the main campus at one time. He worked as State's Receipts Officer with the State Treasury for 25 years until his retirement. In his free time, Mr. Holmes was an avid golfer and an active member of the church family at Taylor Road Baptist Church. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who always believed that his family was truly the greatest blessing in his life. There were few things he loved more than doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, but they will find comfort in the knowing that he is now safe and secure in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Wendell & Henry Annie Sanders Holmes, and his siblings, Shelby Holmes, Clinton Holmes, Ruth Duke, Margie Bodiford, Jean Buchanan. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, 9 months, and 2 days, Susan Jeffcoat Holmes; their daughters & sons-in-law, Mickey Ann & Bobby Boyd and Jackie & Michael Moseley; grandchildren, Haley (Branon) King, Kirsten (Patrick) Colley, Baxter (Nagam) Moseley, and Katie (Sam) Godwin; great-grandchildren, Hudson King, Joseph King, Brooks King, Shepherd Godwin, and Melody Grace Moseley; brother, Donnie (Gea) Holmes; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Active pallbearers will be Bobby Boyd, Michael Moseley, Baxter Moseley, Branon King, Patrick Colley, and Sam Godwin.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Mickey's medical team at UAB Medical Center, including Dr. Harishank Jeyarajan, Dr. James W. Snider, and the staff at UAB Proton Therapy Center, as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice in Montgomery.
