Mrs. Mildred Baggett Thomas, 93, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at South Haven Health & Rehabilitation in Hoover, Alabama on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 26th, at the First Baptist Church of Luverne with Brother Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Thomas was a proud graduate of Massey Draughon Business School in Montgomery, and she would later go on to work as a bank teller at Luverne Bank & Trust for over 30 years. Her selfless spirit and joy in taking care of others led to her also volunteering as a Pink Lady at the local hospital long after her retirement. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Luverne, where she was a beloved fixture there and served on several committees as well. She certainly exemplified the Christian spirit of giving in all of her interactions during her life. Her generosity was legendary in her community as there were so many she had helped over the years, even if it was simply a comforting shoulder to lean on.
Mrs. Thomas was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who truly made her house into a loving home for her family. She was an immaculate housekeeper and took great pride in taking care of her yard and flowers well into her 90s. She was also a fantastic cook and always looked forward to having people to cook and prepare for as much as possible. Indeed, her cooking was a kind of ministry for her as she always made sure that she could provide meals for those going through difficult times in their own lives. She was a truly remarkable woman, who so often had a kind word for everyone she met and could easily uplift their spirits. Her passing is a loss for her family, friends, church, and community as a whole, but they are comforted in the knowledge that she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harry Kendall Thomas; their son, Steve Thomas; parents, Dewey George & Elizabeth Rebecca Bailey Baggett; and brother, Billy Baggett. She is survived by her three children, Harriett (Ron) Howard, Tabitha (Rob) Hardman, and Ken Thomas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Matthew Hardman, Caleb Hardman, Josh Howard, Michael Thomas, Bentley Bush, and Bailey Bush.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1 - 2 PM.
