Mildred Posey Dunn

May 16, 1938 — August 10, 2025

Lapine

Mildred Posey Dunn, 87, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, while surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Mildred will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, August 14th, at Salem Church of Christ with Brother Larry Brady and Brother Steven Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery there with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.

Love and compassion were Mildred's defining qualities throughout her life. No matter what slings and arrows were thrown her way, she never failed to love everyone with all that she had. With her frequently dropping affectionate addresses like "darling" and "sugar," it was obvious to everyone she was a thoroughly Southern lady and, if you dared say something mean about someone else in front of her, she was quick to remind you that "that was ugly" and the Christian thing to do was for you to "pray for them instead." God doesn't like ugly and neither did Miss Mildred! Oh boy, though, how fortunate all those who knew and loved her were that food was her love language. Why? Because you couldn't find a better cook or baker this side of the Mason-Dixon Line! Her red velvet cakes and lemon pies were always a hit with everyone, but drop a mention to her that a recipe sounded good and don't be surprised when she greeted you with that same dish the next time you came by. Lord knows her beloved grandchildren better not mention they were hungry because Mildred didn't just fix you a sandwich. She laid out a full spread each and every time!

While Mildred made her living as a seamstress in her younger days, she had the heart of a musician. There were few things she enjoyed more than playing her guitar as she sang her favorite country songs. Music spoke to her soul and it got her through anything life threw her way. Her calls to sing to them on their birthdays will be especially missed by her beloved family. On Saturdays in the fall, Mildred never failed to cheer on her favorite football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, on to victory. Now, she adored her children with all of her heart, but her favorite people were without a doubt the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Granny." They were truly her heart and soul and she loved them with all she had. She made not have realized it, but they absolutely treasured her just as much. She was everything to the people she loved and she will be missed more than words can express, but they can find comfort in the lifetime of memories they built together.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husbands, Earvin Posey & Billy Dunn; grandson, Kyle Adkins; parents, Claudie Pouncey & Earsie Mae Sexton (L.C.) Mason; and siblings, Grace Dunn, Nell Petty, Doris Pouncey, and Edison Pouncey. She is survived by her children, Ronald Posey, Sandra (Gary) Owens, Karen (Richard) Jinright, Candy (Jamie) Brown, Kim Dunn, Tina (Eric) Bowman; grandchildren, Tonya Posey, Keith Posey, Charlie (Britney) Posey, Jarrod (Anna) Owens, Chase (Rachel) Owens, Josh (Ashley) Jinright, Morgan (Ethan) Sexton, Justin (Kiley) Brown, Julie (JD) Watkins, Rachel (Charlie) Pancutt, Susanna Bowman, Andrew (Jennifer) Bowman, Aaron (Abbey) Bowman, Samantha (Aaron) Banach, Jessica (Paul) Ballentine, and Blake Keane; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Andy (Debbie) Pouncey, Jeanette Nichols, Mary (Junior) Lowe, and Martha Gibbons; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
