Mrs. Mollie Jeffcoat Messick, 95, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31st, 2022 while surrounded by her family at Crenshaw Community Hospital. A graveside service for Mollie will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 5th, in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Brother Kenneth Marler officiating, Jerry W. Mills delivering the eulogy, and Turners Funeral Home directing the service. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Mollie lived a long and happy life, despite the slings and arrows that often came her way during her 95 years on this Earth. She will be remembered for being a loving and caring woman who was always generous to a fault. However, that did not mean she was anyone's pushover! She was as strong-willed a person you could meet and made sure you always knew where you stood with her. Outnumbered by her six children, she instilled a healthy amount of respect (and a touch of fear) in them so that grew up into well-rounded and productive adults. She taught them to be wise with their money and appreciate every blessing that came their way.
Mollie was also a phenomenal cook, and her family loved far too many of her dishes to ever name a favorite. She was truly a servant of her Lord and enjoyed the many years she worshipped with various Methodist & Baptist congregations from Campground to Joquin and Union Hill. She was always up for a trip to a good gospel singing, and she delighted in every moment she was able to spend tending her garden or arranging flowers. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured them all more than anything else in her life. She was the rock of their family for many long decades, and they will find comfort in the wonderful memories they made together. They know she is now hale and whole in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mollie was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther D. Mills Sr and James R. Messick; children, Olivia "Cricket" Snyder and Dee Mills; grandson, Michael Mills; parents, Glen and Mattie Morrison Jeffcoat; and siblings, Bernie Davis, Nell Godby, Erin Williams, George Jeffcoat, Alton Jeffcoat, Harry Jeffcoat, and Skinny Jeffcoat.
She is survived by her children, Roy (Pat) Mills, Hope (John) Wilkerson, Jerry (Sheila) Mills, and Rena (Joe) Russell; grandchildren, Heather (Shaun) Traylor, Jamie Mills, Suzanne (Ken) Marler, Todd (April) Snyder, Jennifer (Tim) Sullivant, Roy (Heather) Mills Jr, Jeff (Mary Beth) Wilkerson, Shelley (Josh) Bowen, Laurie Koumalatsos, Lisa Sawyer, and Jodie (Brent) Schaap; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Nichols; sister-in-law, Florence Jeffcoat; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Roy Mills Jr, Tim Sullivant, Todd Snyder, Kenneth Marler, Jeff Wilkerson, and Morgan Sullivant.
