Naomi Vaughn

Mrs. Naomi Smitherman Vaughn, 95, a resident of Petal, Mississippi and formerly of Lapine, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughn will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 30th, from the Chapel at Turners Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Vaughn was a born caregiver who not only spent her days looking after her loved ones, but also the loved ones of so many others during her career as a nurse's aid in both hospitals and nursing homes. In her free time, she loved tending her beautiful flowers that she grew in her home garden and explored her creative side through her quilting. She was also well-known for being an excellent cook and baker. She loved to share her dishes and baked goods with all of her family and friends, and they were always much appreciated. She was a warm, loving woman who loved few things more than being around her family and friends, and she truly had a gift for making everyone feel welcome in her home. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished every moment they were able to spend together. Those she leaves behind will find comfort in all of those treasured memories for years to come.

Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Knox T. Vaughn Sr; son-in-law, Everette Norris; parents, Andy & Kate Ann Smith Smitherman; and eleven siblings. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Ann Vaughn Norris (Jimmy) Paul, Knox T. (Gay) Vaughn, Joe D. Vaughn, and Larry G. Vaughn; grandchildren, Vaughn Norris, Scott Norris, Todd (Tonya) Vaughn, Brady (Crystal) Vaughn, Valerie Vaughn (Josh) Cuevas, Latonya (Ricky) Painter, and Roger (Debbie) Vaughn; plus seventeen great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 - 2 PM.
