Mr. Almar Neil Tompkins, 66, a resident of Elba, Alabama and formerly of Brantley, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 23, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Tompkins will be held at 2 PM on Monday, August 26, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. C.P. Davis and Minister Philip Box officiating. Interment will follow in Brantley Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Tompkins was a hard-working man who spent much of his life on the road in long-haul trucking. It was an ideal career for a man with such a gregarious personality who never met a stranger. He could rarely be caught without a smile on his face, and he lived to make people laugh. He loved the fall because it brought with it Alabama Football. Above all, he was a devoted family man who adored his grandchildren, and he will be sorely missed by all those he leaves behind.
Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Barbara Jean Tompkins; his parents, W.D. “Buck” and Louise Godwin Tompkins; and brother, Wayne Tompkins. He is survived by his wife, Belinda Cooper Tompkins; two daughters, Cassie (Jason) Wyrosdick and Jennifer Danley; four grandchildren, Caitlyn Flowers, Caden Flowers, Brayden Danley, and Kadence Danley; two brothers, Brian (Shirley) Tompkins and Frank (Lisa) Tompkins; sister-in-law, Sue Tompkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Jake Tompkins, Josh Tompkins, Russell Tompkins, Marc Tompkins, Mark McCann, and Jason Wyrosdick. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of First Choice Hospice for their excellent care of Mr. Tompkins. They will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30 to 2 PM.
