Pat Broadway Sexton

August 18, 1941 — May 9, 2023

Highland Home

Mrs. Ruby Nell "Pat" Broadway Sexton, 81, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023. A graveside service for Pat will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, May 11th, in Salem Cemetery with Brother Jack Cates officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Pat was the oldest sister out of seven children, which meant she spent a good bit of time serving as a second mother to all of her siblings. Though she was never blessed with children of her own, she had a natural maternal instinct that made her a phenomenal aunt throughout her life. There were few things she enjoyed more than spending time with her family, whether it was singing with her sisters on the front porch when they were young or traveling to the mountains of Tennessee. She married later in life, but enjoyed many happy years with her husband, Howard, and thoroughly enjoyed creating a warm, loving, and perfectly organized home for the two of them. Pat was also a dedicated member of Salem Church of Christ and took advantage of every chance she had to praise her Lord with her church family there.

Pat possessed a quiet personality, but she was also an extremely forthright person. It was probably best to ask for her opinion when you actually wanted it! She was such an open and honest soul with everyone she knew that she was often the first they turned to for advice about things that truly mattered. Though she was always extremely private, the multiple generations of her beloved nieces and nephews knew her door was always open to them. She also loved to fill her home with her favorite country and gospel music. Above all, she was truly a kind and generous woman with all those who knew and loved her, and the world will be slightly less with her absence.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Harris Milligan & Nellie Aline Dennis Broadway, and siblings, Janice (Johnny) Hartley & Gladys Jean (Raymond) Jerell. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Boykin Howard Sexton; siblings, James (Lila) Broadway, Brenda (Joe) Wright, Joanne (Lynn) Stauch, and Ouida (Larry) Petty; and a host of multiple generations of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be James Lindsey, David Smith III, Steve Hartley, Brian Grice, John Ross Hartley, and Blake White. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sexton, Alan Polson, Austin Polson, Aaron Polson, and Douglas Hart.
