Mrs. Pauline Rushing Mitchell, 87, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. A graveside service for Mrs. Mitchell will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 25th, in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Brother Clay Crum officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Mitchell was a woman who dedicated much of her life to taking care of others. She eagerly volunteered as a Pink Lady at the hospital and served in the Senior Center for many years, as well as with the First Baptist Church of Luverne. She also worked as a clerk at The Fair Store in Luverne for a long time, and earned her Associate’s degree in English from Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College. Above all, Mrs. Mitchell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be sorely missed by all those she leaves behind.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by three husbands, Drexel Rushing, George Compton, and David Mitchell; a beloved granddaughter, Nicole Rushing; her parents, Fox & Aletha Byrd Rhodes; and two siblings, Sarah Campbell and Rex Rhodes Sr. She is survived by three children, Glenda Rushing (Larry) Ray, Martha Rushing England, and Joe R. (Linda) Rushing; six grandchildren, Tonya Ray (Don) Prepramot, Drexel S. (Amelia) Ray, Lee Ann England, Dale (Tabitha) England, Deeda (Greg) Singh, and Nicholas Rushing; eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Dale England, Drexel Ray, Don Prepramot, Kingston Coleman, James Hall, Rex Rhodes Jr, and Brigham Schellinger.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Comfort Care Hospice of Greenville for their excellent care of Mrs. Mitchell.
