Puni "Bonnie" Kim Simmons, 81, a resident of Elba, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, while surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 14th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Ray Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Darien Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Bonnie was born and raised in South Korea where she met the love of her life, Randy, while he was in the service. They were soon married and went on to spend 48 wonderful years together. Bonnie was an excellent seamstress who loved using her talent to make beautiful creations. In her free time, she especially enjoyed spending her time outside nurturing her gorgeous flowers that brightened up her yard. She also kept her mind engaged and exercised with solving all manner of puzzles. Her family also has a host of memories of her cooking up a storm in her kitchen as she produced delicious dish after dish of her native Korean cuisine. There was nothing she couldn't cook and every bit of it was absolutely scrumptious.
Simply put, Bonnie was always one of the most beautiful and loving souls you could ever hope to meet. There was no one she cherished more than her husband and their family, especially once the little ones who called her "Nannie" began making their appearance! She never took anything for granted and firmly believed in living life to its fullest, no matter what. She was beloved for her easygoing nature and endless good humor, but you should never let her soft-spoken manner deceive you because she harbored an iron will behind it. Above all, she was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was always the bedrock of her family. Words cannot express how important she was to each and every one of them, nor how much she will be sorely missed.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James Randy Simmons; children, Vicki (Jim) Hook, Tracy (Kenneth) Singleton, and Jamie (Lisa) Simmons; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Wilburn Mitchell, Terry Messick, Dwayne Simmons, William Simmons, Mark Simmons, and Tony Duncan.
