Mrs. Velma Raye Coggins, 83, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, May 7, 2020.
Mrs. Coggins dedicated her life to taking care of others in the medical field. She not only worked at the Luverne’s local hospital in various positions for many years, she also worked with several local doctors before her retirement. In her spare time, she continued her nursing skills by taking care of numerous abandoned animals she found over the years, including turkeys, squirrels, and deer. Above all, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be sorely missed by all those she leaves behind.
Mrs. Coggins was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jimmy C. Coggins; parents, William G. and Mamie Dean Taylor; and two sisters, Ruth Owens and Mary Kilpatrick. She is survived by her three children, Larry (Janice) Coggins, Tina (Ernie) Bell, and Alan (Vicki) Coggins; five grandchildren, Mendy Coggins, Ashley Coggins, Corey Coggins, Lisa Bell, and Cley Coggins; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Judy Rodgers, Robert (Cheryl) Taylor, Ann (Larry) Graham, Shirley (Billy) Schofield, and Debbie Hall.
Mrs. Coggins’ grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.
