Mr. Raymond Charles Arsenault Jr, 68, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 19th, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, May 29th, at Rock Hill Church of Christ.
Mr. Arsenault was born to Raymond Sr & Dorothy Griffin Arsenault on November 3, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia. He went on to proudly serve his country with the United States Navy from 1975-1984. He was honorably discharged after earning the rank of Petty Officer First Class while serving on multiple submarines as a nuclear technician and operator. Raymond then went to work for Farley Nuclear Plant in Alabama in 1992 for 8 years before taking on contract work that saw him traveling around the country. He finally settled back in Alabama after going to work for the Department of Homeland Security with the TSA where he remained until his retirement.
He married his beloved wife, Barbara Tomlin, on February 14, 1999. They spent their first few years together in Rutledge before moving into the house he lovingly built for them. Raymond will continue to be remembered as the consummate gentleman he always was with others. He placed tremendous value in the principles of honesty and integrity, and truly practiced the Golden Rule with all those he knew. He was forever faithful to his ideals, and refused to lower his standards for anyone, always expecting others to live up to them. Raymond was a reserved and quiet man, so his quick wit and dry humor could often catch people by surprise if they did not know him well. Above all, he was extremely generous with those he loved. He never gave out of obligation or expectation, just out of the goodness of his heart.
Speaking of his heart, it firmly belonged to his precious wife, Barbara, and to their blended family. Love and compassion were plentiful in their family, even if Raymond struggled at times to express his feelings to others. Though he was generally a shy soul, his loved ones knew that he was always available to them if they needed to talk, be it children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to them talk and sharing how their day went. He was always available to them, night or day, he made sure they knew he was willing to stop what he was doing to be a shoulder for them to lean on. His family learned to never underestimate the value of that shoulder he provided for them and his memory will be as legend amongst them for many years to come.
Mr. Arsenault was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr & Dorothy Griffin Arsenault.
