Reba Holmes Motes, 90, a lifelong resident of Glenwood, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Saturday, April 11th, 2026. Funeral services for Reba will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, April 14th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Reba was the very picture of what a strong, smart, and independent woman is all throughout her life. Not many women born during the Great Depression could have handled the slings and arrows life through her way, especially being left to raise two daughters entirely on her own. But she handled it all with her usual grace under pressure and did a fine job of it as her girls turned out just as strong and smart as their mom. She was also a source of strength and fun for her siblings as they were always so very close since birth. She also cherished her grandsons and great-grandchildren with all of her heart and soul. She was always there for them all, whether it was a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, or her signature brownies which could make anything better.
After spending 32 years working as a gifted seamstress at Luverne Slacks, Reba went on to spend her days as a caregiver for others as long as she was able to. And, by as long as she was able to, that could mean anytime between her retirement and death at 90. Doubt me all you will, but this was the woman who washed her car every week into her 80s and you might have lucked up to get her to help you with yours, just don't ask her to buff it! Yeah, you better believe Reba was just as strong-willed and feisty as they come alongside a wonderfully quick wit. Truly, you had better never engage in a battle of wits with that woman if you were unarmed....as most were compared to her. There is no doubt that her sense of humor is one of only a million reasons why her memory will continue to burn brightly in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her for many more years to come.
Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clifton & Voncile King Holmes, and sisters, Verdie Holmes & Janice Holmes. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Regina (Jerry) Brooks & Donna Powell; grandsons, Jason Brooks (Chelsei Ward) and Chad (Kelly) Powell; great-grandchildren, Tucker Powell and Kay Southard; brothers, Henry Holmes, Newton (Doris) Holmes, and Hannis Holmes; nieces, Sherry Holmes & Marie (Robert) Little; and grandnephew, David Little.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Brooks, Jason Brooks, Chad Powell, Tucker Powell, Robert Little, and David Little.
