Obituary

Rebecca "Becky" Welch Montgomery, 85, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, while surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Becky will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Dunford Cole officiating and her son, Allen, delivering the eulogy. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bobby, in Ivy Creek Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Becky was a multi-talented, proper Southern lady throughout her life and was a inspiration to so many young girls over the years. She was a trained cosmetologist who also owned the Merle Norman store in Greenville for many years. There were few things Becky loved more than using her time and talent to teach young girls how to apply their makeup properly. She also enjoyed helping them get all dolled up for pageants, proms, and other event. Meanwhile, she was also a brilliant pianist with an absolutely beautiful singing voice as well. Becky was just a young girl when she first taught herself how to play the piano by ear and she spent the rest of her life celebrating the God-given talent which led her to perform in every Baptist church in the area, as well an innumerable amount of community & school events and funerals.

Still, later in life, her proudest achievement was her decision to go back and earn her GED in her 40s since, like many her age, she had been unable to finish high school after getting married. Becky didn't need the degree for anything but it was unfinished business and she was not the type to leave anything unfinished. What a remarkable example to her three generations of grandchildren because they were certainly her heart and soul. Things were always the best at Grandmother Becky's rustic cabin populated by her discoveries at antique and thrift stores. She had a generous and compassionate soul, especially when it came to her family. Indeed, her best times were spent with them from family reunions to big family holidays she hosted every year. Becky brought so much love, light, and warmth into all of their lives and words cannot express how sorely she will be missed, but comfort can be found in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby R. Welch; son, Jerry R. Sexton; great-grandson, Hunter Todd Sexton; parents, Hilton & Connie Lee Milton Johnson; and brother, James W. Johnson. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, David Allen & Lesa Sexton; daughter-in-law, Barbara Moore; grandchildren, David Joshua (Kayla) Sexton, Jacob Allen (Kelley) Sexton, Jerry Todd (Julie) Sexton, and Kristi Leigh Sexton; great-grandchildren, Luke G. Sexton, Lexi B. Sexton, Courtney Minton, Justin (Emily) Sexton, Hayden Minton, Taylor Sexton, and Emma Minton; great-great-granddaughters, Oaklynn Sexton & Rebecca Sexton; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

Active pallbearers will Todd Sexton, Josh Sexton, Jacob Sexton, Justin Sexton, Taylor Sexton, and Dewayne Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Shaner, Christy Weaver, Curtis Phillips, Conway Barczak, and Mike Wazavek.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses of Aveanna Hospice for their wonderful care of Becky during this difficult time.
