Rhocene Cauthen Fowler

September 25, 1924 — August 28, 2024

Greenville

Rhocene Cauthen Fowler, 99, a resident of Greenville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crowne Healthcare of Greenville on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. A graveside service for Rhocene will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 30th, in Bethlehem Cemetery with Brother Jack Cates and Brother Adrian Peavy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 29th, from 6 to 8 PM.

Years ago at breakfast time, you could find Rhocene and Pig every morning, with a host of friends, at the Hardee's on Norman Bridge Road in Montgomery. Well, except for Fridays, as those days were reserved for her and her close friends, Ollie Mae Peavy and Vivian Smith, to strike out to Montgomery for a full day of shopping. On any given evening of the week, she could usually be found at some ballfield or auction house. She was also a devoted attendee at Strata Church of Christ every Sunday, with lunch at the Chicken Shack to follow. After Pig passed away and she married Red Fowler, her dream of living in Montgomery was finally realized. She was able to shop and eat out any and every day of the week she chose!

While living in Montgomery, her son, Larry, frequently held yard sales at her home and this was always a grand time! In later years, after Red's passing, she returned home to Sellers and began attending Mountain Hill Baptist Church for Sunday morning service, with lunch still to follow at her beloved Chicken Shack. For the last five years of her life, she moved in with her granddaughter, Alisha, in Greenville. However, she still kept up occasional shopping trips and lunches every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at the Chicken Shack! As you can see, she lived a full life surrounded by family and friends and thoroughly loved being "on the go"! She was a loving and devoted mother and "Granny" to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will forever be in our hearts and memories.

Rhocene was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilfred "Pig" Cauthen and Lamar "Red" Fowler; son, Larry Cauthen; great-grandson, Noah Beck; close longtime family friend, Margaret McNabb; and parents, Van Buren Morgan and Dollie Mae Shreve.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sandra Peavy McGinty; grandchildren, Alisha Kay Cartwright, Chadwick Peavy, Scott (Dana) Cauthen, and Jennifer C. (Jimmy) Garrett; great-grandchildren, Zade Cartwright, Pilar Cartwright, Haley Peavy, Wesley Peavy, Connor Cauthen, and Will Beck.

Active pallbearers will be Wesley Peavy, Zade Cartwright, Will Beck, Chadwick Peavy, Scott Cauthen, and Clint Cartwright.
