Richard Anderson Folmar

FOLMAR, Mr. Richard Anderson, 88, of Luverne, Alabama died peacefully on September 6, 2010, at Baptist Hospital South, Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Anderson and Mae Johnson Folmar, and sister Sibyl Folmar Summerlin. Survivors include his sisters, Hulda Folmar Gibson and Macy Folmar Taylor of Montgomery; nieces Chris Summerlin (Layne Schultetus), O’Brien, Florida, Linda Crim (Roger), San Diego, California; nephew, Tim Gibson (Karen), Newport Beach, California; great niece and nephews, Michael (Megan) Crim, San Diego, CA, Lee Crim, Midway City, CA, and Shanna Easterday, Branford, FL; great-great nieces and nephews, Alexa, Nolan & Henry Crim, Hayley & Bradley Easterday.

Richard was a well known artist. His paintings grace many homes throughout the South, especially in the Montgomery area. Following service in the Signal Corps (USAAC) during WWII he attended the Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, Florida. His career began in the advertising arts for Atlanta department & home furnishing stores. He spent several years working with his father & uncles in the family business, Folmar Brothers Hardware in Luverne. After, he relocated to the Destin area and pursued his career in painting. He is best known for his watercolors depicting the beaches of the Emerald Coast.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 8, at 2 PM from Turner Funeral Home Chapel, the Reverend Doctor Lester Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Luverne Emmaus Cemetery Fund, Luverne United Methodist Church, or to one’s favorite charity.
