Mr. Richard "Gent" Ray Heartsill, 79, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Heartsill will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, September 7, at Bethel Methodist Church with Minister Gayle Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Heartsill was a lifelong farmer who also worked in the logging business. In his spare time, he was an avid reader and always had a song on his lips. Above all, he loved his family more than anything else, and will be deeply missed by all of them.
Mr. Heartsill was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Heartsill; daughter, Margret Rose Heartsill; parents, James Abner Sr and Flora Freeman Heartsill; and nine siblings, Zollie “Sonny” Heartsill, Clifford “Johnny” Heartsill, Imogene Ham, Alice Faye Dantzler, Kathleen Hardin, Danice Costes, Christine Segars, James A. Heartsill Jr, and Corrine Perdue. He is survived by his four children, James Heartsill, Richard Daniel (Michelle) Godwin, Katie Burgans, and Teresa (Thomas) Reeves; five stepchildren, William Ellis, Robert Dennis (Kimmie) Barnes, Darren (Rhonda) Barnes, John (Sharon) Barnes, and Marty (Kim) Barnes; twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four siblings, Nadine Bell, Laurice Goorley, Maxine Farmham, and Henry “Debo” Heartsill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Winston Heartsill, Brandon Heartsill, Chad Heartsill, Jason Hurley, Billy Carroll, and Tommy Cobb. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Heartsill and John Barnes Jr. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 2 - 3 PM.
