TSgt Robbie “Din Din” Martin Weeks Sr, 79, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2020, due to complications from Agent Orange.
Mr. Weeks was born on July 24, 1940 to Charles Hansel & Laura Virginia Jones Weeks in Moultrie, Georgia. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1959, and went on to college in North Carolina. In August of 1961, he joined the United States Air Forces, where he would achieve the rank of Technical Sergeant. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict, and continued to serve until his retirement in October of 1981. While in service, he and his family lived all over the country and overseas, including Hawaii and Turkey.
After his retirement, Mr. Weeks had several businesses of his own, from a lawn repair service to a restaurant. He was truly a Renaissance man, being gifted as a man capable of doing almost anything. He accumulated a wealth of knowledge of his years, and willingly shared it with everyone, including: when to plant different vegetables, identifying various trees, and practically anything you would ever want to know about the outdoors. Since he was a child, Mr. Weeks loved few things more than being outside. He excelled at hunting & fishing, and loved sharing his knowledge & skills with his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Din Din” by his grandchildren (and everyone else), he led by example, as he was a man of his word and had a heart of gold. He loved helping others, and, with his gregarious nature, never met a stranger. He had a special way of making people smile, and taught his family to always look for the positive. He was truly a blessing to all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Weeks was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tiffany “Punky” Shanel Weeks; his parents, Charles H. “C.H.” & Laura Virginia Jones Weeks; and two siblings, Jean Babcock and Jerry Weeks. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Marie Weeks; son, Robbie Martin Jr & Terrylin Weeks; six grandchildren, Justin Tyler Jones, Ryan Charles Jones, Logan Tylor Weeks, Brandon Ray Jones, Hunter Kirklin Weeks, and Coleman Martin Jones; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Tylor Weeks, Ollie Z. Jones, and Tiffany Nora Weeks; two siblings, Virginia (Jenner) Laubach and Joy Newberry; two nephews, Mark Weeks and Scott Weeks; and a special cousin, Jessie Weeks.
Active pallbearers will be Brandon Jones, Coleman Jones, Ryan Jones, Justin Jones, Hunter Weeks, Logan Weeks, Dalton Weeks, and Kyler Weeks.
