Roslyn Benton Brown, 81, a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and formerly of Luverne and Elba, passed away peacefully in her home at Sodalis Assisted Living on Friday, June 21st, 2024. Funeral services for Roslyn will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 26th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside her husband in Live Oak Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Roslyn grew up in Dothan, Alabama and counted herself fortunate to have met the love of her life at the tender age of 15 while visiting her sister in Luverne. For the next 65 years, Roslyn and Richard were rarely parted as they endured all the slings and arrows life could hurl at them with grace and love. She enjoyed her professional career as a teller at local banks for many years as it both challenged her mind and allowed her to interact with so many members of her community. She and Richard were faithful members of their churches, Woodland Grove Church and First Baptist Church of Luverne, where he served as a deacon and she took joy in expressing her love for her Lord by singing with the choir. Roslyn may have retired from her career, but she never gave up her natural leadership skills as she ran for, and won, the role of president of the Resident Association when they moved to Brookdale Assisted Living Facility. Obviously, Roslyn was not the type to simply complain about things like the food when she could take charge and ensure those things were changed.
She was also a natural born hostess and there were few things she loved doing more, whether it was her friends from church coming over for a game of bridge or dominoes or having the whole Brown clan over for the best Thanksgivings possible. In her free time, Roslyn loved tending to her beautiful flowers and sewing, and anytime she could find a pool for a good swim was going to be a good day. She was an excellent seamstress and even took her sewing machine with her to Brookdale where she continued to make alterations to not only their own clothes but also those of other residents. Roslyn was also a phenomenal cook when it came ot old-fashioned Southern cooking and her baking skills were even better. Her cakes were always in high demand when the holidays rolled around. Above all, Roslyn was an extraordinarily kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family with every fiber of her being. She adored her sons, but becoming "Grandma" to their children was simply the best. Even better, they all adored her even more. Words cannot possibly express how much she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, but comfort can be found in the knowledge that she is now rejoicing in her reunion with her beloved Richard and their son in the arms of their loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Roslyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard Brown; their son, Richard Travis Brown Jr; parents, Wilson and Elizabeth Benton; and sister, Sarah (Ted) Bond. She is survived by her sons, Hollis Troy (Anne) Brown and Scott Benton Brown (Lisa Lindsey); daughter-in-law, Audrey Brown; grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Wetzel, Travis Brown, Tyler (Tori) Brown, and Anna Kate (William) Coleman; great-grandchildren, Colton Wetzel and Anna Beth Wetzel; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Brown, Danny Brown, Tyler Brown, William Coleman, Sam Brown, Daniel Brown, and Ryan Brown.
