Dr. Roy Darrell Lamb, Sr., age 82, of Troy, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025. Born October 23, 1942, in West Virginia, Roy's life was marked by devotion to his family, his profession, and his community.
Roy was a proud graduate of Concord College and the Southern College of Optometry, where he met the love of his life, Jane Watson. Their partnership of 57 years was filled with mutual respect, unwavering love, and shared dedication to the profession of optometry. Together, they practiced in Troy and Luverne for decades, serving generations of patients with care and integrity.
Roy was deeply admired for his work ethic, honesty, and steadfast values. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as "Poppy," a name that captured his warmth and joy in family life. He often said he was the luckiest man in the world to have married his Janey, and he considered his family his greatest blessing.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dr. Jane Watson Lamb; his children, JJ Vanche (Chip) and Darrell Lamb (Michele); his cherished grandchildren, Zoe Jane Vanche, Joe Dixon Vanche, and Mary Kathryn Lamb; and his sister, Bethel Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Lamb, and his brothers, Jean Lamb and James Lamb.
The family will hold a private burial in Luverne. In lieu of flowers, they ask that memorial donations be made to the Parkinson's Association of Alabama, Inc.
Roy's life was one of quiet strength, compassion, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of service, family devotion, and enduring faith.
