Ruthie Gaines Mount, 91, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023. Funeral services for Ruthie will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, December 3rd, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Gaines officiating and her grandson, Dr. Jason W. Johnson, delivering the eulogy. She will then be laid to rest beside her husband in Brantley Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday for one hour prior to the service.

Ruth was the epitome of a the special kind of woman described in Proverbs 31, which suited her as she was such a dedicated Christian and amazing prayer warrior who changed so many lives through her love and prayers. No one was more organized, diligent, or hard-working than Ruth was. In fact, she was so good at farming that she won several awards as the best Pullet Grower of the Year! She definitely had near the patience of Job with her lively and boisterous family whom she loved with every ounce of her heart and soul. Ruth wound up giving birth to three doctors, but do you think any of them were every able to outsmart or out-think her? Not a chance! You've never met a more strong-willed woman than she, and everyone around her respected her indomitable mindset. Never fear that Ruth wasn't going to tell you exactly what she thought, and you might as well listen to her because she was probably right (and if you didn't listen, you'd hear about it)! Obviously, there was no one like Ruthie Lee Mount and you were beyond fortunate if you were blessed enough to have her in your life.

Ruth was generous to a fault; a trait she passed along to her entire family so that they will all leave the world a better place than they found it. There were few things she loved more than spending time immersed in the Lord's Word and gained so much strength from it. She always relied on God, her faith, and His wisdom, but that didn't keep her from also being extremely self-sufficient and courageous, whether that came to stepping out on faith or grabbing a rifle if the occasion required it! Shoot, Ruth loved more stereotypically "manly" pursuits like hunting and fishing (see, self-reliant), but she also enjoyed every minute she was able to spend tending to her garden or exploring her creative side through sewing. Oh, and no one could whip up such scrumptious dishes and desserts in the kitchen. Her family especially cherished her homemade "smiley-face" biscuits and chocolate pies as just about the best things ever. She adored all three of her children, but, like so many, there was no one she treasured more than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! They all fiercely loved their Grandmama too and will cherish every single memory they have with her for the rest of their lives. Ruth knew her greatest blessing on this earth was her family, and they felt theirs was her. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all those who knew and love her, but they are comforted knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Johnny in Heaven.

Ruthie Lee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Daniel "Johnny" Mount; parents, Walter & Mae Carr Gaines; and siblings, Q.P. Gaines, Donnie Hue "Hootie" Gaines, Walter Herman "Shinny" Gaines, and Lillie Drew Savell. She is survived by her children & their spouses, Dr. Theresa & Eugene "Buddy" Johnson, Dr. Danny & Christie "Cricket" Mount, and Dr. Gary & Fatima Mount; grandchildren & spouses, Dr. Jason & Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Troy & Brittany Johnson, Lindsay J. & Matt Pagano, Dr. Jonathan & Brittney (CRNP) Mount, Caitlin & Christopher Hilburn, Zackary & Ilga Mount, Nickolas & Merry Mount, and Gabryella & Gibson Wang; great-grandchildren, Elijah Gaines Johnson, Ellis Mount Johnson, Ella Elizabeth "Ella Beth" Johnson, Emilia Ruth Pagano, Jon Colter Mount, Fielder Reece Mount, Natalie Jane Hilburn, John Allen Hilburn, John-Henry Hilburn, Brooks Daniel Mount, and Banks David Mount; siblings, Margie Prescott, Bobby Gaines, Sarah (George) Sewell, and Nickson "Nick" (Betty) Gaines; sister-in-law, Juanita Colquett; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
