Ruthie Lee Raybon

October 30, 1935 — June 26, 2024

Brantley

Ruthie Lee Hurst Raybon, 88, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024. Funeral services for Ruthie will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 29th, at Indian Creek Community Church with Rev. Danny Ray Duncan officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside her husband in Indian Creek Church Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Ruthie spent her professional career as a very talented seamstress at local factories, including many years at Luverne Slacks. She had a warm and outgoing personality that allowed her to make friends wherever she went and her open, loving heart endured her to everyone who knew her. She was also blessed with a phenomenal sense of humor which kept her family in stitches with all the various stories of her antics they have accumulated over the years, whether she wanted them to be remembered or not! Ruthie was definitely a multi-talented woman. Not only was she a great seamstress, but she also had a remarkable green thumb that she put to excellent use around her home. Whether it was some of the most beautiful flowers you've ever seen or the hottest peppers she could find, everything in her yard thrived under her nurturing care.

She was also a wiz in her kitchen when it came to some of the best Southern staples. Her family, in particular, absolutely loved Grandma's chicken & dumplings and homemade biscuits. Finally, she was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and Savior with all of her heart and spent countless hours immersed in His Word. Above all, Ruthie was simply the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother anyone could have ever asked for and she was beloved by each and every one of them. They knew her door was always open to them, no matter what, and she would always be their greatest champion. Words cannot express how much they will miss her but she will live on in their hearts for many more years to come.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Renell Raybon; parents, Alfred A. & Martha Snow Gilliam Hurst; and all twelve of her siblings. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Shilene & Junior Strops; grandchildren, Jonathan Burt Odom, Lucretia Rene (Jason) Mathews, Jeremy Todd Odom, Steven Kurt Odom, and Randall Kyle (Brittany) Odom; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Alexis Odom, Sierra Brook Odom, Nicholas Kade Odom, Elijah Cole Odom, Yelena Selene "Laney" Mathews, Lucian Xander Mathews, Colton Bryce Odom, Sawyer Reid Odom, and Brody Lane Odom; great-great-grandchildren, Harmony Grace Thompson and Charlotte Jude Arnold; brother-in-law, Royce (Dot) Reeves; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Burt Odom, Rene Mathews, Todd Odom, Steven Odom, Kyle Odom, and Nick Odom.
