Mrs. June Mitchell Blackmon, 75, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home while surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 12th, 2022. A celebration of June's life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 17th at the Luverne Church of Christ with Brother J.W. Furr officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service time.
June married her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Blackmon, in 1965 and they continued to raise and love their family together until his passing in 2015. Though she may have called herself a homemaker at times, she put in a tremendous amount of physical labor into keeping their farm running throughout her life. She enjoyed the time she spent outdoors, and she took extraordinary pride in taking care of her yard. Over the years, in what little free time running a farm and raising three children allowed her, she indulged her more creative side through various arts and crafts and she was always quick to pull out a new recipe from her vast collection of cookbooks. She was also a longtime, faithful member of the Luverne Church of Christ and truly loved her church family there. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt to her large and loving family. Her gentle demeanor could camouflage her spirited personality, but she never failed to treat others with the kindness and love demanded by her faith. She was always so very thoughtful with those in her life, and her absence most assuredly leaves her community less than it was.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Blackmon; their granddaughter, Sara Margaret Ann Blackmon; parents, Ferris Wesley & Jessie Mae Smith Mitchell; and brothers, Winfred Mitchell, Odis Mitchell, Ashton Mitchell, and Rex Mitchell. She is survived by her beloved children, Darren Blackmon, Amanda Blackmon, and Kevin Blackmon; grandchildren, Andrue (Audra) Blackmon, Carter Blackmon, Jonah Blackmon, Emory Blackmon, Hunter Blackmon, Asa Blackmon, Axel Blackmon, and Braelyn Blackmon; great-grandchildren, Henley Blackmon, Adelynn Blackmon, and Oliver Blackmon; siblings, Janice Mullens, Virginia Garvin, Genell Fuller, Jean Sorrells, Katie Kelley, David Mitchell, and Carroll Simmons; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Phyllis Knighten and her family for all of their help and care for June.
