Mrs. Byrd devoted her life to loving the Lord and caring for her family. She reared her five children in Fleetwood Baptist Church where she worshiped with her lifelong and beloved church family. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing delicious food, setting a fancy table and sharing meals with her loved ones. Every table in her house was full when Granny Byrd cooked a meal. She also delighted in flower gardening and worked each spring painting pots, replenishing potting soil and planting new flowers. She lived a blessed life filled with love. She and her husband James Byrd lived a quiet life on their farm in Patsburg. They found joy in time spent with customers and friends in their store, Byrd's Country Corner. Before her retirement, she proudly worked in the accounting offices of Henderson Black and Green in Troy, Alabama. She took great pride in looking her best, dressing in stylish clothes, beautiful jewelry, flawless makeup, styled hair and manicured nails. A word used most often to describe her was "prissy."
Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Byrd; her parents, Reverend John Franklin and Mary Lee Barfoot Sanders; her sister, Martha Nell Corkins; her brother James F. "Bud" Sanders and her son-in-law, David Hume West. She is survived by her four daughters, Suzette West, Juliette Adams, Debbie Mount and Tammy (Chuck) Alford; and her son, John M. (Sharon) West; nine grandchildren, John David West, Mary Leigh (Wesley) Hall, Alex Adams, Norma Gantt, Tara Gantt, Crystal (Brandon) Defee, Luke West, Mallie (Errin) Johnson and Marli Alford; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister; Betty (Jimmy) Baggett.
