Sheila Jane Brunson

Sheila Brunson, 73, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully after a courageous fight against cancer on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. Funeral services for Sheila will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 25th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Stae Sanders officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside the love of her life, Howard, in Live Oak Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

Sheila never failed to impress at every job she ever held over the years, always sliding into a management role everywhere she went. Easy to understand given her incredible inner strength and willingness to work. I mean, this woman would get out there and help clear the land by hand so they could plant....though she preferred to admire the beautiful flowers than spend her time planting them. In her free time, she loved going to the beach or listening to her brand of "Oldies" music (it's debatable if her Pat Benatar actually qualifies). She also adored every beloved little Chihuahua she ever had as a canine companion.

Sheila was truly generous to a fault, always willing to pitch in to help whoever needed it. Her kindness, generosity of spirit, and true love of people was evident in every interaction she ever had. It's not hard to understand why people loved her so well. Her smile lit up every room she graced with her presence and she truly held a special place in the hearts of everyone who loved her so well. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and cherished "Grannie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she never failed to have time for so they could make wonderful memories together.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Howard Lamar Brunson; parents, Sherman Leo & Myra Bernice Poppel Padgett; and brother, Bill Padgett. She is survived by her children, Larry Brunson, Michael Brunson, and Katrina Bell; grandchildren, Stormie (Joey) Vitello, Dakota Brunson, KaMya Jerido, Connor Williamson, and Chase Williamson; great-grandchildren, Landon, Aryanna, and Joey; siblings, Sandra Parham and Leon Padgett, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
