Shirley Greene Killough, 83, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away on Monday, November 11th, 2024, at Jackson Hospital after a brief illness. She fought a brief but mighty fight, and we were witness to a miracle in giving us ten more days with our precious mom with her knowing we were there and able to respond to us.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 15th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Neal Kelley officiating. The family will have a private graveside service afterward. They will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Iverson Killough; infant daughter; parents, RD & Fannie Dean Greene; brothers, Willie "Bill" Greene, Bernard "Pete" Greene, and Donnie Greene; and several nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Kathy Killough, Angela Killough (Marlon Hamm), and Eric (Julie) Killough; grandchildren, Chris Holladay, Brandi Holladay Giles, Alana Killough (Channing Beverly), and Tate Killough; great-grandchildren, Brandon Holladay, Aria Giles, and Liam Mosley; brothers, Danny (Becky) Greene and Russell Greene; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Shirley was born and raised in Greenville, Alabama and was a proud member of the Greenville High School Class of 1959. Following her graduation, she met and married the love of her life and moved to the Ivy Creek Community outside of Rutledge where they happily tended to their farm and raised their family together. Shirley became a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church there and was an active member while also serving many roles over the years within the church. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and helping her family and neighbors during times of need. She was also a wonderful cook and you could consider yourself blessed if you ever had one of her pound cakes! Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who leaves behind many precious memories to be cherished by her family and friends.
