Shirley was truly blessed with the ability to cook, but nothing compared to her ability to bake. There was nothing she made that wasn't just about the best thing you had ever tasted! You definitely wanted a reason to visit her home because she was going to make sure you never left hungry. She ultimately retired from the Montgomery Country Club after many years as their best pastry chef. Shirley was particularly known for her beautiful and scrumptious wedding cakes that were the highlight of many a reception over the years. She had an innate talent for what she did, but what made everything just so good was the knowledge that she put her whole heart into everything she made. Anyone who says they can't taste the love in food, just never was blessed to have tried her dishes and desserts!
Shirley was many things to many people. She was her husband's biggest cheerleader and the rock her children turned to during the storms life threw their way. She was a beloved companion to her sister, Jane, who occupied such a special place in her heart and her life. Her favorite title though was "Granny" to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was no one on this earth she loved as fiercely as she did them, and they cherished every moment they had with her, especially when they came with her homemade treats as a bonus. Words simply cannot do her justice when it came to how special she was to everyone who loved her. She had a heart of gold and was generous with all she met. She was as sweet as her confections and created such a legacy of love and kindness while remaining true to her own soft-spoken, humble personality. She was also the epitome of everything a good Christian woman should be, and a long-time member of Weed Baptist Church. Sixty-nine years was not enough time with Shirley, but her loved ones will find comfort both in the memories they made together and knowing that she is now safe and secure in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Rufus & Trixie Mae Sanders Holley. She is survived by the love her of life & husband of 50 years, Brian Tompkins; their sons, Russell (Stephanie) Tompkins and Tommy Tompkins; grandchildren, Amber (Garrett) Montgomery, Brittney (Adam) Haynes, Annie Tompkins, Logan Anderson, and Joseph Tompkins; great-grandchildren, Leah Montgomery and Eli Haynes; sister, Jane Hilley; nephew, Mike Hilley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loved ones who held such a special place in her heart.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Tompkins, Frank Tompkins, Mark Tompkins, Adam Haynes, Garrett Montgomery, and Dylan Summerford.
