Steve Sport Brooner, 68, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022. Funeral services for Mr. Brooner will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 7th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brothers Randy Watts and Bill Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Kimbro Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery on Wednesday, July 6th, from 5 - 7 PM.
After graduating from Bitburg American High School in Bitburg, Germany in 1972, Steve began a career in Caterpillar heavy equipment with Burford Equipment Company in October 1974, and he continued with the business after its sale to Thompson Tractor Company until illness compelled his retirement in December of 2018. Steve was a beloved husband and devoted father who will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Jean Brooner. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rebecca Black Brooner; their children, Amanda B. (Philip) Davis and Steven Matthew (Rachel) Brooner; grandson, Steven Wade Davis; his father, Clifford E. Brooner; parents-in-law, Jesse & Mary Black; sister-in-law, Mary (Jay) Strong; niece and nephews, Katherine, Alex, Andrew, and Christian Strong; and other extended family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Kimbro Cemetery Fund, c/o First National Bank, P.O. Drawer 68, Dozier, Alabama 36028, the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Hospital for Children, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, or one's favorite charity.
