It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Susan Palmer Baucknecht, who passed away on October 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 80 years old.
Born on September 10, 1946, in Queens, New York, Susan later moved to Clearwater, Florida, before making Luverne, Alabama, her final home. A graduate of Garden City High School in New York, Susan built a life filled with love, friendship, and cherished memories. She was a devoted member of Rutledge Methodist Church and, throughout her career, worked for Nielsen Media and Alfieri Insurance before retiring.
Above all else, Susan treasured her family. She was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a devoted great-grandmother whose love extended far beyond her immediate family. Her family was her heart, and the time she spent with them was among her greatest joys. Her sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Susan is survived by her loving children, Michael A. (Pilar) De Freese and Kristina (Tim) Woodall, who will forever carry her love and memory in their hearts.
She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Michael (Brandy) De Freese, Joseph (Kaylee) Stewart, Samantha (Melissa) Biafore, Joshua, Jaret, and Emily. Her legacy of love continues through her precious great-grandchildren, Aiden, Averi, Kamden, Abram, Zander, and Knox, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Susan was also a bonus mom and grandmother to many, a devoted aunt, and a cherished friend to countless people whose lives she touched throughout the years. Her love was never limited by blood or family ties. She had a way of making people feel welcomed, cared for, and loved, and the family she created extended far beyond those listed here.
An animal lover at heart, Susan found happiness in the companionship of animals, the excitement of traveling, and, most importantly, the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends. Whether sharing laughter, making memories, or simply being together, she treasured the moments that made life meaningful.
Susan was loved by many, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her passing was unexpected, the love she gave and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
While words cannot fully express the sorrow of losing someone so dear, we take comfort in knowing that Susan's love will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends who were blessed to know her.
She leaves behind a lifetime of love, a family forever changed by her presence, and memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Rest peacefully, Susan. You were loved more than words can say, and you will be missed more than words can express. Your love will live on in all of us, today, tomorrow, and always.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
