Susan Mixon Hatfield, 66, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, while surrounded by her family. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at Liberty Church of Christ in Hope Hull AL (15096 US Hwy 31). Service will be 2:30 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Susan proudly spent over 30 years with the United States Postal Service before her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed helping run a deer farm. She was also a member of the church of Christ and had been worshipping with the Highland Home Church for the last 20 years. A remarkably faithful and God-fearing woman, there were few things she enjoyed more than lifting her voice in song, singing and praising her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Both at church and in her community, she was well-known for the bun she used to pin up her beautifully long hair. She was known for being such a genuinely kind, caring soul with a generous heart and love for her fellow man.
As someone who craved the simple pleasures in life, Susan was always happiest in her home and surrounded by her beloved family. No surprise she adored her husband and their children, but those grandbabies who called her "SuSu" were her whole heart. They especially loved any of the delicious southern staples she whipped up in her kitchen over the years. She was also as strong-willed and resilient as they come, but she always led with her heart in everything she did. One of the most expressive people you'd ever meet, it was rare to find her without a smile on her face, no matter what she may have been going through. She was just so incredibly selfless with everyone and never complained about her own trials and tribulations. She was the quiet, steady foundation of her entire family, and her legacy of love and kindness will live on through them for many more years to come.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Hendon & Vera Smartt Mixon, and brother, Donald Mixon. She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Thomas H. Hatfield III; their children, Myra (Jason) Hall, Thomas H. (Carol Leah) Hatfield IV, and Daniel (Shawna) Hatfield; grandchildren, Jackson, Addison, Kylie, Ella Grace, & Anna Claire Hall, Thomas Harry V, Levi, & Lela Grace Hatfield, and Savannah Grace, Ethan, & Mason Hatfield; treasured canine companion, Rocky; and numerous other family members and friends.
