Susan Irene Faulk Pettis, 92 passed away on May 3, 2014 at Brownsburg Meadows nursing facility in Brownsburg, Indiana. She was born May 15,1921 in Honoraville , AL to the late D.D. Faulk and Lelia B. Faulk. She was the youngest of 8 children that included 3 brothers and 4 sisters all who preceded her in death.

Susan was married to the late Alfred R. Cook and had one daughter, Kathryn Cook Hepfer. She remarried and was married for 24 years to Alexander Winston Pettis who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her step-daughter Barbara Pettis Kopf. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Cook Hepfer and son-in-law Wayne D. Hepfer, of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren, Elizabeth Pogue (Steve) Holly Springs , NC, Wayne Hepfer Jr. (Laura) Zionsville, IN, Charlotte Glidden (Dink) Brownsburg, IN, Brenda Guilinger (Charlie) Brownsburg, IN, David Kopf (Jenny) Fairhope, AL, Sammy Kopf (Chris ) Prattville, AL, Suzanne Martin (Jeff) Thomasville, GA. She had 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her nephews and niece include John Robert Faulk (Bettie), Fredricksburg,VA. Mary Ruth Wagner (Michael) Davie,FL. Lamar Faulk (Brenda), Dothan, AL. James Faulk, (Deceased) (Margaret), Dothan, AL.

Susan lived in Alabama, Pennsylvania and lived in Indiana for the last 45 years. She retired after 35 years as a long distance telephone operator which included service with Pennsylvania Bell, Indiana Bell and AT&T. She worked during the time of party lines and switchboards . She was a compassionate person who often provided companionship and rides to Drs.appointments to neighbors and others needing her help. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family.

Her heart was always at the family farm in Alabama, and she loved visiting there as often as she could, visiting and entertaining her many cousins, nephews,nieces, and childhood friends on the front porch.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Salem Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, Lapine, AL with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 pm until 8pm. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice. Will lie-in-state 30 minutes before service.
