Thurman Lanier Reeves

November 8, 1939 — November 4, 2021

Troy

Mr. Thurman "Short" Lanier Reeves, 81, a resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Jackson Hospital on Thursday, November 4th, 2021. A graveside service for Mr. Reeves will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 9th, in Pleasant Home Cemetery with Minister Thomas Andrew Smith and Rev. Johnny Jones officiating and Turners Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Reeves, affectionately known as "Short" by just about everyone, believed in the value of hard work, and epitomized it throughout his life. Over the years, he worked as a farmer, a truck driver, at a service station, and with State of Alabama Forestry Service. He was a quiet and reserved man, but also very kind and compassionate with all those who knew him. In his free time, he loved fishing and watching Westerns and wrestling. He was also a huge, lifelong fan of the Luverne Tigers and the Auburn Tigers football teams. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle throughout his life. He faced a great deal of adversity and more loss than most people experience during his lifetime, but he never allowed it to define him or break his spirit. Until the last, he remained the good and kind soul he had always been. His loss is simply heartbreaking for his entire family, but they know he has found peace with all those who have gone on before him. They will find comfort now in the lifetime of memories and legacy he has left behind.

Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Brenda Gail Reeves; young son, Michael Lanier Reeves; parents, Sam & Clemmie Myrtle Boswell Reeves; and all of his siblings, Dollie Owens, Doris Boswell, Gladys Boswell, Connie Hayes, Bill Reeves, Olin Reeves, and Bobby Reeves. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 59 years, Lillian Doris Burgans Reeves; their daughter, Melissa Reeves; his devoted canine companion, Jordan; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Reeves, Barry Reeves, Clarence Boswell, Jeff Adams, Jermey May, Cortney Ward, and Jason Burgans.

Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
