Tipton Carnes Massey

Tipton "Tip" Carnes Massey, 91, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away in his home on Monday, October 14th, 2024. Funeral services for Tip will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 15th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. John Baxter officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ida Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Tip was proud to be part of the Troy State Trojans Football Team while he was earning his bachelor's degree in Physical Education. He later went on to enjoy working for Ford Motor Company selling tractors to farmers around the area. In his free time, Tip loved activities that kept him outside in God's beautiful creation, especially fishing and golfing. He kept up with his alma mater and other teams over the years as he enjoyed watching football on TV. He was generous with all those he knew and loved, and had a stellar reputation as a kind and loving man who always supported and cared for the people in his life. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and "Granddaddy" to his most cherished possession on Earth, his family. He will be missed beyond words, but there is comfort in the knowledge that he lived a long and happy life surrounded by all those who loved him best.

Tip was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents, Comer Carnes & Grace Kimbro Massey; and sister, Nell Sellers. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Ruth Compton Massey; their sons & daughters-in-law, John & Janet Massey and Paul & Beth Massey; grandchildren, Melinda (Brett) Hendry, Tipton Massey, Catharine (Jacob) Watkins, and Abbie Massey; great-grandchildren, Sloane & Ellis Hendry and Rhett Watkins; sister, Josie Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Preston Compton, Jared Compton, Tipton Massey, Robert Cane, and Neil Reamer.
