Mr. James Tolbert Jayroe, 98, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Jayroe will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 2, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Crum officiating and Justin Jayroe delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Tolbert proudly served his country with the United States Army as they helped liberate Europe from the Nazi regime during World War II. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Tolbert was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Leah Volet; his parents, James W. and Laura McNeal Jayroe; son-in-law, John Volet; and two siblings. He is survived by his devoted wife of 77 years, Frances Hall Jayroe; two children, Keith (Sharon) Jayroe and Denese Jayroe Volet; four grandchildren, Stacey (Johnny) Jones, Justin Jayroe, Wolff (Jill) Volet, and Jody Volet; and five great-grandchildren, Zane (Alaina) Jones, Libbey Jones, Lyndsay Volet, Landon Volet, and Laci Volet. The family would like to express their gratitude to Big Mamma, Little Mamma, Duck, and Pearlie for the loving care and attention they provided Mr. Jayroe in his later years, as well as Alacare Home Health and Hospice for their palliative care.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Hall, Johnny Jones, Justin Jayroe, Wolff Volet, Zane Jones, and Paul Allen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 - 11 AM.
