Vera "Bea" Cook, 97, a resident of Honoraville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024. A graveside service for Vera will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, at Cool Springs Cemetery with Brother Stae Sanders officiating and Turners Funeral Home directing. The family and friends will be meeting at the cemetery just prior to the service.
Vera was born during the Roaring Twenties and survived some of the most traumatic times of our history, from the Great Depression to World War II, and some of our greatest triumphs, including the space race and technological advances beyond her wildest dreams. If you were fortunate enough to spend time listening to some of her stories amassed over an incredible almost full century, then you were fully aware of how amazing that century was as she was old enough to remember packing up to go with her family on jobs that required them to live, cook, and clean on-site like so many pioneers did during the 19th Century. Naturally, she could have never made it through all of that without having a will made of iron!
As an adult, she spent much of her professional career as a hairstylist and loved the opportunities it gave her to make women feel beautiful....and keep up with all the local "news." She was also a loving wife to her dear husband and enjoyed whipping up all kinds of delicious concoctions in the kitchen for him and the rest of her family. Though never blessed with children of her own, Vera dearly loved all of the multiple generations of nieces and nephews who filled up her life with so much joy and happiness, as well as the four-legged variety too! Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her best, but comfort can be found in a blessed long life that was well lived.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Howard Cook; parents, Claude and Vera Crawford; and many siblings. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Ryan Carney, Venishia Carney, Frank White, Shylo White, Keegan Crawford, and Jonson Crawford.
